Rock & Roll Happy Hour with Mother Earth & The Bruery

Your Mother Called. She Wants Beer.

April 22, 2017

And do we know where to get it! Tonight we’re joined by our friends Kevin Hopkins, VP of Mother Earth Brew Co. and The Bruery founder and brewmaster, Patrick Rue. Like Yin and Yang, the two are a complimentary pair. (Visual: Patrick and Kevin skipping hand in hand through a field of daisies. You’re welcome.) Mother Earth is famous for their delightfully drinkable IPA’s and beloved cream ale, while The Bruery has one of the most brilliantly decadent barrel aging and blending programs on the planet.

  • Mother Earth|The Bruery Spring Let’s start with their latest mutual collaboration, the current release in the Four Seasons of Mother Earth Series. A dry-hopped saison brewed with kumquats, it’s insanely refreshing. Many folks think of Belgian-style ales as big, estery brews worthy of stone archways and stinky cheese. Well think again! Crisp and clean with a bright aroma and subtle, citrus rind bitterness it’s a poolside pleaser at 6.5% abv.
  • The Bruery Mischief This is a favorite of Jeremy and Ken, and the judging panel at the 2016 GABF liked it too. Awarded it GOLD, in fact! And it’s no wonder. This edition is dry-hopped with CITRA and Motueka hops, giving this Belgian-style strong ale a West Coast, hop-tropical twist. At a very dry, clean 8.5% it is a mischief maker indeed. You have been warned.
  • Mother Earth|Pure Project |Bottlecraft Three Sisters Trail IPA Three related hops (Nugget, Simcoe, and Mosaic) were chosen to signify the brother/sisterhood of local brewers. This beer is dedicated to a local hiking trail that will get some restorative "love": A portion of the sales proceeds will benefit the San Diego River Park Foundation and other keepers of the Three Sisters and its natural environs. Enjoy AFTER your hike. It’s a blazing, steep walk back up!
  • The Bruery/Terreux Frederick H The “H” is for their now retired epic Berliner-Weisse style refresher, Hottenroth. Terreux is the Bruery’s wild/sour brewing line and this oak foudre-aged, solara-blended sour that is layer upon layer of tart funkiness. Woodruff syrup optional.
  • Mother Earth Power of Love IPA Now that we’ve got Huey’s song is stuck in your head, try taking a snort of this uber-dank, purple can o’ punch-you-in-the-brain. For some reason, this latest installment of their aptly named Resinator series reminds Ken of his Santa Cruz days—and all of us here in the studio suddenly have a craving for Scooby snacks…
  • The Bruery 9th Anniversary Saule Huge, rare and awe-inspiring, this is a whale of a beer indeed. Words escape us, so we’ll leave it to the folks at the Bruery themselves to describe this hard-to-find-but-worth-it gem. At 16+% abv, it’s definitely a finisher, worthy of your closest friends and a fire pit.
